Formulas Used

Merit Score (0–100):

  • GPA Component  = (GPA ÷ 4.0) × 40
  • SAT Component  = ((SAT − 400) ÷ 1200) × 30
  • EC Component   = (EC Score ÷ 10) × 20
  • Essay Component = (Essay Score ÷ 10) × 10
  • Merit Score = GPA + SAT + EC + Essay components

Need Score (0–100):

  • Financial Need = COA − EFC
  • Need Ratio = Financial Need ÷ COA
  • Need Score = Need Ratio × 100

Composite Eligibility Score:

  • Merit-Based  : 0.80 × Merit Score + 0.20 × Need Score
  • Need-Based   : 0.20 × Merit Score + 0.80 × Need Score
  • Hybrid       : 0.50 × Merit Score + 0.50 × Need Score

Estimated Award:

  • Award % = Composite Score ÷ 100
  • Estimated Award = Award % × Financial Need

Assumptions & References

  • GPA is on a standard 4.0 unweighted scale (College Board).
  • SAT range 400–1600 per College Board redesigned SAT (2016–present). ACT scores should be converted using the official ACT–SAT concordance table.
  • EFC (Expected Family Contribution) is derived from the FAFSA Student Aid Report; replaced by SAI (Student Aid Index) under FAFSA Simplification Act 2024 — values are comparable for estimation purposes.
  • Financial Need = COA − EFC, per U.S. Department of Education standard definition (Federal Student Aid Handbook).
  • Merit weighting model adapted from NACAC (National Association for College Admission Counseling) scholarship criteria surveys.
  • Extracurricular and essay scores are self-assessed; actual scholarship committees may weigh these differently.
  • Estimated award is a statistical approximation and does not guarantee any specific scholarship amount.
  • Results do not account for citizenship status, field of study, institutional-specific criteria, or donor restrictions.
